The Bible forbids abortion, since the Sixth Commandment forbids murder:
“You shall not murder.” (Exodus 20:13)
Murder entails taking life on man’s terms and not God’s.
God requires capital punishment for certain crimes (see Matthew 15:4; Genesis 9:6; and Leviticus 24:16 for some examples); and allows for self-defense and defending others (Exodus 22:2, 3; Jeremiah 2:34, 35), as well as just war (self-defense on a national scale).
But nowhere does the Bible permit shedding innocent blood:
Thus says the LORD: Do justice and righteousness, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor him who has been robbed. And do no wrong or violence to the resident alien, the fatherless, and the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place.” (Jeremiah 22:3)
The unborn are obviously innocent of committing any crimes the Bible considers capital offenses. Moreover, the unborn obviously do not seek to take the life of another. Therefore, the unborn are innocent.
In fact, being incapable of maliciously hurting anyone in any way, the unborn are as innocent as it comes—which means, when it comes to taking life, abortion is as wicked as it comes .
